SHURE Podcast Microphones
Two (2) Shure MV7X Dynamic Podcast Microphones with boom arms are available for podcasting. The boom arm clamps allow users to easily set up on any table in the Presentation Studio. Users may use on or both microphones.
Whether by reservation or walk-up, opens new windowreserve the Presentation Studio, then check in at the Library Service desk to check out use of the microphones and get the room opened. The desk supervisor will help you get started. Ask at the desk for assistance, if needed. Your student ID will be held until you are done using the room.
Podcast Recording
The Presentation Studio is equipped with two SHURE podcast microphones labeled #3 and #4.
Check in at the Library Service Desk so the use of these microphones can be checked out to you. Use one or both microphones.
- Furniture in the room may be moved to meet your needs, but you will need to return it to its original position when you have finished podcasting.
- Use the Recording door hanger on the outside doorknob to avoid being disturbed.
- Users are responsible for the equipment during their session.
- Student IDs will be held when the room is being used.
- No food or drinks are allowed in the room.
(Note: At the end of the semester, files or recordings left on the computer will be deleted.)
Refer to the Green Screen Recording - Getting Started page for setting up the lights, computer, TV screen, and Zoom, if needed. Turn on the computer and use the "Student" login. (No login credential is required to log in to the computer.) Then find and log in to your Zoom account. (Note: To save your recordings on your OneDrive, go to office.com, sign in using your ORU credentials, and then select OneDrive from the list of apps.)
Set Up Podcast Microphones
The two SHURE podcast microphones (mic) are labeled #3 and #4. When connecting the microphones, match each mic to the cable connector with the same number.
► Plug podcast mic #3 into the connector labeled #3.
► Plug podcast mic #4 into the connector labeled #4.
The audio mixer (inside the computer cabinet) has matching labels #3 and #4 for adjusting mic volume. To adjust the sound levels, open the front door of the computer cabinet and adjust the knobs for #3 and #4 as needed. (Do not tamper with other cables or equipment in the computer cabinet.)
Recording - Video Podcasting
You can use Zoom for recording both audio and video using the green screen setup. Always test the audio to make sure you are close enough to the microphone(s) for clear sound.
► In Zoom's Audio settings, choose Line (USB AUDIO CODEC).
► For Zoom's Local Recording: Storage location: Choose a local file or save it on the desktop where you can find it later. This will save the recording on the computer. After you finish recording, log in to your OneDrive account and upload the recording file from the Presentation Studio computer to your OneDrive account. (See the "After Recording" section below)
Recording - Audio-Only
Windows Sound Recorder is a great option for creating simple, audio-only podcasts. The program will automatically detect the podcast microphones when they are plugged in. Be sure to click the Record button when you start your recording!
► Check the taskbar -- Sound Recorder should be pinned there. If it is not available, you can download it at https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9wzdncrfhwkn?hl=en-US&gl=US
You can also use Zoom for audio-only recording by simply turning off the video feature.
After Recording
► To save the recording on your cloud account, go to office.com, sign in using your ORU credentials, and then select OneDrive from the list of apps. In the Zoom recording settings, for "Store my recording at," choose your OneDrive.
You can also try to email the file or try WeTransfer to send large files.
► Delete your recording(s). (Files and recordings left on the computer can be viewed by others.)
When you are finished:
✓ Log out of your Zoom account (if you used it to record) and any other personal accounts.
✓ Log out of the computer.
✓ Return any moved furniture to its original position.
✓ Turn off the room lights and close the door behind you.
✓ Check in at the Library Service Desk and let them know you are done.
The supervisor on duty will check the room and turn off the recording lights and TV (if used) before returning your ID.
✓ Get your ID.
Important Note:
Do not tamper with the cables or equipment inside the back of the computer cabinet.
Doing so may result in suspension of room privileges.
Our goal is to keep the room "ready to go" for all students. Thanks for helping us maintain it!
