As part of COMP-102, -102H, and HONR-101, you will complete two (2) library workshops, or LIBBIs, that will answer these questions and provide essential research tools. LIBBI content provides overview of library resources and basic skills to get started on and successfully complete your research assignment with ease and efficiency. There is nothing to do in preparation for the LIBBIs.
LIBBI-102COMP Part 1
Part 1, Tutorial: The ORU Library, Books & Ebooks, and Reference
Objectives
After completing the Part 1 LIBBI Tutorial, you should be able to:
- Navigate the library Web page
- Access online resources
- Perform basic searches in the ORU library catalog
- Search and navigate ebooks
- Use online reference databases
Part 1 - Online Tutorial [Approximate completion time is 40-60 mins.]
This is an online, interactive tutorial for COMP 102 students to complete at their own pace before attending the LIBBI Part 2 session in the library.
Contents: The tutorial has three (3) Modules. Students must complete all three modules to finish the tutorial.
- Module #1 - The LIBBI Tutorial and Navigating the Library's Website [approximately 10-20 mins.]
This module explores the library website and briefly covers basic information and available tools there. - Module #2 - Finding Books and Ebooks [approximately 10-15 mins.]
Explore the library catalog features and ORU's ebook collections. - Module #3 - Brainstorming, Background Info, and the "Certificate of Completion" [approximately 20-25 mins.]
Learn how to effectively use and get citations in four popular reference databases.
How to Complete the Tutorial:
- Click the link above to access the tutorial.
- Use the NEXT button to move through the tutorial.
- Answer basic questions correctly as you progress.
- After completing one module, proceed to the next module
- Complete all three modules.
To get credit for LIBBI Part 1:
- Complete all three modules in the tutorial.
- Submit your name and email on the "Certificate of Completion" form (at the end of the tutorial). Download the Certificate PDF, then upload it to your Composition 102 D2L dropbox.
LIBBI-102COMP Part 2
Part 2, Hands-on Session: Journals, Articles, and Databases
Objectives
After completing the Part 2 LIBBI, you should be able to:
- Explore the A-Z Databases page
- Find a scholarly article using keywords and Boolean expressions
- Interpret, evaluate, and improve a search for more relevant results
- Create a MLA citation using a database tool, then accurately edit it
- Find a journal or magazine title in Journal Finder+
- Use ChatGPT as a tool to generate relevant search terms and explore related subtopics
This is a hands-on session to discover and explore library resources. The Part 2 LIBBI session is scheduled by your Composition professor. LIBBI sessions meet in the LIBBI Lab located in the J.D. McKean Library, second floor across from the elevators.
🔴 It is recommended and helpful to complete the Part 1 Tutorial before attending Part 2.
For virtual students, the Zoom link and password will be sent to your ORU email the day of the LIBBI session.

- Both Parts 1 and 2 are required and must be completed. Non-attendance results in a letter grade consequence. See your opens new windowcourse syllabus for more information on the LIBBI requirements.
- For the semester, when the LIBBIs are over there is no way to make them up.
