Download ebooks to Bluefire Reader

  • Go to either the opens new windowebrary or eBook Collection (EBSCOhost) via the library opens new window Database List using the Safari browser on your iPad.
  • Insert your Novell username and password when prompted.
  • Select an ebrary or EBSCOhost ebook to download.
  • Click the Download button in ebrary or "Download This Book (Offline)" in EBSCOhost.
  • Select "Download the entire document for xx days in Adobe Digital Editions format."
  • Tap "OK", then tap "Open in..." and then "Open in Bluefire Reader."
  • Begin reading.
  • At any time you can go to the library icon on the Bluefire Reader app to read an ebook, delete it, or return it.
  • You can download up to 10 ebooks on the Bluefire Reader app at any one time.

How to Download an ebrary ebook to a PC or Laptop

Download an ebrary ebook to Adobe Digital Editions

  • Sign in to ebrary and search for an ebook.
  • Click the Download button of an ebrary ebook.
  • Select "Download the entire document for 14 [or 7] days in Adobe Digital Editions format."
  • Note: Adobe Digital Editions does not have access to your ebrary bookshelf, bookmarks, highlights, or annotations.
  • The advantage of using Adobe Digital Editions is the ability to read an entire ebrary ebook offline on your laptop or PC.

How to Download an ebrary ebook Chapter or Page Range

  • Sign in to ebrary and search for an ebook.
  • Click the Download button of an ebrary ebook.
  • Select a chapter or page range (typically the limit is 60 pages) to download into a PDF.
  • Email the PDF to yourself
  • If you open your email on your PC or laptap, save it to the desired folder on your hard drive or in a cloud application such as Dropbox or Google Drive.
  • If you open your email on your mobile device, open the PDF and tap the arrow on the upper right to choose an app that reads PDFs. Choices will vary according to the apps that you have downloaded. Popular ones include Kindle or iBooks.
  • If you save the PDF to Dropbox or Google Drive while on your PC or laptop, then you may also access it from your mobile device.

Initial Setup for Downloading ebooks

In preparation for downloading and reading ebooks offline take each of these steps (if you have not already done so):

Step 1: Create an Apple account.

Step 2: Create an Adobe ID.

  • If you have already downloaded an entire ebook from ebrary or EBSCO, then you already have an Adobe ID.
  • You will need an Adobe IDto download Adobe Digital Editions, which is the ebook reader to which you can download both ebrary and EBSCO eBooks.
  • Go to opens new windowhttps://www.adobe.com/account/sign-in. Adobedotcom.html, and click "Don't have an Adobe ID?"
  • Fill in the blanks and click "Create."
  • Keep your Adobe ID and password in a secure placewhere you can easily retrieve them if you forget them.

Step 3: Create a personal account in ebrary.

  • Go to the opens new windowebrary Academic Completeweb site via the Library's opens new window database list tosign in using your ORU network username and password (i.e. the same ones that you use to log on to a campus computer or to access the library resources off campus).
  • If you don't already have a personal ebrary account, when you sign in using your ORU network username and password, your ebrary account is automatically generated. If you are off campus, when you fill in your username and password to access ebrary, you will automatically be signed into your personal ebrary account.

Step 4: Create a "My EBSCOhost" account.

  • Go to an EBSCOhost database on the Database List, e.g., Academic Search Complete, and and click "Sign in" at the top.
  • If you don't already have a "My EBSCOhost" account, click "Create a new account," fill in the form and click the "save changes" button.
  • Keep your My EBSOhost username and password in a secure place where you can easily retrieve them if you forget them.
  • If you have forgotten your username and/or password, click on the appropriate link on the "Sign In" page.

Step 5: Download Adobe Digital Editions onto your desktop or laptop.

Step 6: Download Bluefire Reader app to your mobile device.

  • Go to the App Store on your iPad and find Bluefire Reader.
  • Download the app.
  • Authorize the app with your Adobe ID.

Options for Reading PDFs on Mobile Devices

Option 1

  • Email the PDF to an email address you can access on your mobile device.
  • Open the email on your mobile device and tap the PDF icon.
  • on the upper right of the PDF, tap the arrow to transfer the PDF to an ebook reader app such as:
    • iBooks
    • Kindle
    • Bluefire Reader

Option 2

  • Save the PDF to the cloud, e.g.,
    • Dropbox
    • Google Drive
  • Download the Dropbox or Google Drive app to your mobile device.
  • Open the app and find the desired PDF
  • Click the title.
  • Read directly from Dropbox.
  • Or, open in an ebook reader as in Option 1.

  • Go to opens new windoweBook Collection (EBSCOhost) from the Database List and click "Sign In" to log into your "My EBSCOhost" folder.
  • Click "New Search" and do a search for an ebook.
  • Click the "ebook Full Text" link.
  • Determine the section/chapter or page range that you want to download.
  • Go to the first page of the section.
  • Click the email icon.
  • Select "this section" or fill in the number of pages you want to email as a PDF. (Typically the limit per ebook is 60 pages.)
  • Click "E-mail PDF."
  • Open the PDF on your PC, laptop, or mobile device.
  • If you open the PDF on your PC or laptop, be sure it is named properly and then save it to a desired folder.
  • If you open it on your mobile device, tap the arrow on the upper right, and choose an app with which to open it and read it. The choices will depend on the reader apps you have downloaded. Some common reader apps are Kindle and iBooks. Alternatively, open the PDF in Dropbox or Google Drive, where it will automatically be saved for future reading.
